MD Clients – Buy a Domain, cheap
A Quick Checklist on Choosing Domain Name:
- My Domain contains a geo-targeting area
- My Domain contains a core service or product that I offer
- My Domain contains my company name
- My Domain is less than 10 characters long
- My Domain consists of 3 words or less
- My Domain is easy to remember
- My Domain has no double meaning
- I can have Twitter, Facebook, and other SM accounts with Exactly the same Name
If your domain matches any of the 3 statements above, you are on the right track. When choosing your domain name, we do not recommend that you include:
- Numbers
- Script words
- Dashes
- Articles, such as the, a, at, on, for, of
- Long, hard to pronounce or hard to read words and last names
- The words: Best, Top or Great
We do recommend that you go with a .COM domain because it will be indexed better than any other domain extension.
Geo-Targeting Area - in your domain name will help you to focus on your targeted local audience. If you are a local small business, a doctor, or a store, it’s in your interest to have as many targeted visitors to your site, as possible. Think about the metro area that is closest to you and have it inside your domain – it helps with Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and local traffic to your website. For example, RoanokeVeinDoctor.com or BostonDentalService.com
Core Service Or Product - also helps with targeting your local audience of individuals and businesses especially if they are looking for your products in that particular metro area. If you live in Roanoke, VA and you are looking for a Vein Doctor in your area, you’ll definitely specify Roanoke Vein Doctor at some point, so RoanokeVeinDoctor.com is a good choice.
Company Name - If your company name is short and simple then it may be the best choice for naming your website because you will hardly need geo-targeting or service targeting. But you have to understand, that you are sacrificing any keywords that you might have put in the name, other than self-promotion or your company’s name. If you decide to use your company name then it is a good idea to include a keyword in that name. For example, WOM Communications, LLC main website spells the name of the company exactly. Also, it has a double and even triple meaning, as WOM stands for: Word-of-Mouth, Women, Wake-on-Modern, Women on Mission, Web Object Management and so on. All of these meanings make a positive impact on the wording and help to get a better SEO score.
Less Than 10 Characters in Domain – it’s one of the standards to have a domain name of 10 or less characters. It’s not always possible, but if you can manage it, you’ll gain about 2% of instant SEO rank (score). MDclients.com would be a good domain because it is under 10 characters in length.
Domain is less than 3 words – 3 words has been found to be the maximum number of meaningful words saved in people’s memory while browsing the web. MidwestFootSurgery.com would be a good example of a 3-word domain because it is easy to remember and follow.
Easy-to-Remember Domains – Think of something that is often spelled out or something that has a great association with your line of products/services. Take Acronyms into consideration, as well. Some examples would be ABiSee.com, flip.com, OCO.com, YouTube.com and so on.
Domain Double Meaning – one of the things that you should be concerned about is whether your potential visitors will see your domain name the way that you meant them to. A classic example is for the marketing firm Pen Island. When they first registered their business name, Pen Island, and created a website under the domain PenIsland.com, they instantly got tons of traffic… but not for the keyword “pen”, of course. Read the domain name carefully, it also spells out an adult message. So, they got lots of people who were looking for adult sites and pornography, but it was not traffic that would help them with their business. It can happen to you... be careful when choosing a domain name.
SM Accounts with the same name – a good way to create business cloud around your business, is to have as many sources, as possible with the same or very similar name – directly or indirectly pointed back to your site. Social Media Profiles get indexed quickly and usually put on top of search results – in this case, you may be able to get all first 10 results of Google search pointed back to your site. Twitter will be a Tricky one – Try it first, as it has fewer characters for each username. You need this mostly for Self-Title promotion, but see what it does for www.MDclients.com for example. Type in Google 'MD Clients' and see how many sources has been already pointed back to the same company.
